TELECOMWORLDWIRE-9 March 2007-Mayo Clinic Proceedings reports findings of study on mobile phone use in hospitals(C)1994-2007 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Mayo Clinic medical practice reported on Thursday (8 March) that its researchers have found that calls made on mobile phones do not have any impact on hospital medical devices.

The March issue of Mayo Clinic Proceedings includes a study, the results of which concluded that the regular use of mobile phones gave no noticeable interference with patient care equipment. The study involved 300 tests over a five-month period in 2006, and not a single problem was incurred. The tests, performed at the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, included 192 different medical devices and two mobile phones with different technologies from different carriers.

According to Mayo Clinic, the authors of the report hope that their findings will motivate hospitals to alter or abandon their policies on mobile phone use.

Mayo Clinic Proceedings is a peer-review journal which publishes original articles and reviews dealing with clinical and laboratory medicine, clinical research, basic science research and clinical epidemiology.
