Huawei selected by Etisalat to provide FTTH network

Telecomworldwire,  April 11, 2008

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-11 April 2008-Huawei selected by Etisalat to provide FTTH network(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Etisalat, an integrated service provider in the Middle East, has selected Huawei Technologies Co Ltd (Huawei), a provider of next-generation telecomms network solutions, to build a large-scale commercial Fibre to the Home (FTTH) network in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Huawei said the planned GPON FTTH network for Etisalat will provide ultra high-speed connectivity for businesses and families, using optical line terminals (OLT) and optical network terminals (ONT). It claimed these terminals can handle different application scenarios including commercial buildings, residential apartments and villas.

Etisalat, which has established an All IP strategy to drive business and network transformation, is using FTTH to replace the existing network with fibre optical technology, introducing last-mile connectivity. Huawei's GPON FTTH solution will allow it to meet current and future demand for ultra-high bandwidth access while improving the service experience for customers.

Etisalat expects its customer base with direct FTTH access to reach hundreds of thousands by the end of 2008.
