Research In Motion Limited (RIM) (NasdaqGS:RIMM) (Toronto:RIM.TO), a provider of mobile communications, on 2 April reported results for the fourth quarter and fiscal year of 2008, ended 1 March 2008.

Revenues for the quarter were USD1.88bn, a 102% increase over USD930.4m in the corresponding quarter of the prior year. For the fiscal year revenues were USD6.01bn as compared with USD3.04bn in the prior fiscal year, representing a 98% increase.

Net Income for the quarter was USD412.5m, or USD0.72 per diluted share, as compared with a net income of USD370.5m, or USD0.65 per diluted share, in the fourth quarter of the prior year.

For the fiscal year 2008 net income was USD1.29bn, or USD2.26 per diluted share, a 105% increase over net income of USD631.6m, or USD1.10 per diluted share, in fiscal 2007.

The company had total of cash, cash equivalents, short-term investments and long-term investments of USD2.34bn at the end of the quarter, as compared with USD2.13bn at the end of the previous quarter.

The company said that revenues for the first quarter of fiscal 2009 are expected to be in the range of USD2.23bn to USD2.30bn. Diluted earnings per share are expected to be in the range of USD0.82 to USD0.86.
