Diversified technology company 3M (NYSE:MMM) announced on Thursday (21 August) that Seoul National University (SNU), an institution of higher education in South Korea, will install the company's detection and SelfCheck systems from 3M Library Systems.

The SelfCheck systems will be installed at SNU's central library and seven branches, with the installation expected to be completed this month.

3M's SelfCheck systems reportedly enable library customers to check out and return books and other items without requiring assistance from library staff.

Under the agreement, SNU will deploy four 3M's SelfCheck systems for checking out items and four systems for returning them.

In addition, for security, the library also will install a 3M detection system using Tattle-Tape security strips from 3M to help ensure that items are authorised to leave the premises.

Also, the university's seven branches will each receive a SelfCheck system from 3M for returns and a 3M detection system.

SNU has chosen barcode technology for its detection and SelfCheck systems.

Financial details of the deployment were not available.
