TELECOMWORLDWIRE-28 August 2008-Sumitomo Electric announces development of new coaxial laser diode module(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Sumitomo Electric Industries Ltd (TOKYO:5802) (ISIN:JP3407400005), a provider of optical fibre, cable and components, advanced electronic devices and automotive parts, has reported that it has developed a new coaxial laser diode module with the ability to support high frequency bandwidth applications.

This new model expands Sumitomo Electric's family of coaxial laser diode modules to being capable to support a wider frequency range, from 2GHz to 5GHz. The modules have been designed for use in mobile base station communication systems.

The new module can achieve a 5GHz bandwidth. A redesign of the built-in isolator has improved reflection and reduced parasitis capacitance.

Sampling of Sumitomo Electric's new coaxial laser diode module will be available in the third quarter of 2008 and it is expected to be available for purchase by the end of 2008. Pricing details have not been announced.
