Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), a provider of technology and services to telecomms operators, has announced that is has entered a five-year, sole-supplier partnership agreement with Emaar, a developer of Saudi Arabia's high-tech flagship King Abdullah Economic City.

Under the agreement, Ericsson will be supplying, building, integrating, operating and managing multiplay communications infrastructure for the smart-city project.

The contract will require products from Ericsson's major acquisitions, Entrisphere, Marconi, Redback and TANDBERG Television and from its telecomms services portfolio.

The network provided by Ericsson will provide services such as IP telephone, movies-on-demand, personalised television, super fast Internet and data services. Ericsson will be using GPON fibre-to-the-home technology, which enables these advanced media services for television, PCs and telephones.

Financial details of the agreement were not reported.
