Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ), a provider of broadband and other wireline and wireless communications, announced on Wednesday (27 August) that the company has been authorised to provide its FiOS TV service in Snohomish county, Washington, USA.

FiOS TV is provided over Verizon's all-fibre network directly to the customers' homes. It delivers a range of high-definition programming and Internet download speeds of up to 50 Mb/s and upload speeds of up to 20 Mb/s, as well as high-quality voice services.Snohomish County is reportedly the 10th community in the state of Washington to grant a video franchise to Verizon. Verizon now has the authority to offer FiOS TV to up to 80,000 households in Snohomish County.

Other Washington communities which have approved the FiOS franchise are Bothell, Brier, Edmonds, Everett, Kenmore, Lynnwood, Marysville, Woodinville and Woodway.

Verizon said that the company plans to begin offering FiOS TV in Washington later this year.

Verizon already provides FiOS TV in parts of California, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and Virginia in the US.
