Nortel and LG Electronics demonstrate mobile LTE handover

Nortel (NYSE: NT) (TSX: NT) today announced that the company, in collaboration with LG Electronics, have successfully demonstrated high speed LTE handover at Nortel's Research and Development Centre of Excellence in Ottawa.

The demonstration involved streaming HD video over a network consisting of multiple cell sites and sectors served by Nortel's eNodeB LTE base station and ATCA-based Access Gateway. An LG mobile device, carried in a vehicle travelling at over 100kmh, was used the display the received signal as it travelled past successive cell sites and coverage areas, demonstrating the capability of the system to hand connections over from one transmitter site to the next.

LTE is a next generation mobile standard being developed by Nortel, LG Electronics and other technology companies to replace 3G with a faster solution, capable of offering sufficient capacity for bandwidth intensive mobile services.
