TELECOMWORLDWIRE-5 August 2008-Verizon launches new interoperability service for public safety networks(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Verizon Business, a unit of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ), has announced the launch of a new service designed to solve the problems of direct communication between various public safety communications systems.

The Verizon Communications Interoperability Solution is a service which the company hopes will allow the various organisations such as police, ambulance, fire brigade and other public safety bodies to communicate with each other, despite the fact that each organisation might be using incompatible equipment and systems. The service converts all communications, whether telephone, radio, data or text to an IP-based system which acts as a central despatch service.

The service will also be available throughout the US to any large organisation with disparate communications technologies spread across physically distant campuses. The State of West Virginia has already reportedly signed up for the service in order to mesh together its emergency communications networks.
