TELECOMWORLDWIRE-6 August 2008-China Telecom selects Huawei to build 40G WDM transmission network(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Huawei Technologies Co Ltd, a provider of next-generation telecomms network solutions, has been selected by China Telecom, a wireline telecomms and broadband services provider in China, to build a 40G WDM (Wavelength Division Multiplexing) transmission network between Shanghai and Wuxi in China.

Under the terms of the contract Huawei is to provide China Telecom with a high-capacity 80 wavelengths x 40G transmission solution, capable of 10G/40G hybrid transmission, to meet the operator's Internet bandwidth requirements and to lay a foundation for providing high-bandwidth services.

Huawei's 40G transmission solution reportedly provides cost benefits across different application scenarios. The company's SuperDRZ technologies support ultra long-haul transmission of up to 1,500km without the need for regeneration, which reduces investment costs. In addition, 40G transmission solutions adopt Huawei's C-band extension technology, which increases the fibre transmission bandwidth by an extra 20% and enables the DWDM system to offer a transmission capacity of 3.84T.

The financial details of the project were not disclosed.
