TELECOMWORLDWIRE-6 August 2008-TSA prepared for use of checkpoint friendly laptop cases(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has confirmed that from 16 August 2008 travellers will be able to leave laptops in 'checkpoint friendly' bags when passing through airport security.
Checkpoint friendly laptop cases must have designated laptop sections which fold out to lie flat on X-ray belts. They must also have no metal zips, buckles or other fastenings inside, underneath or on top of this section; no pockets inside or outside the laptop-only section; and nothing packed in the laptop-only section apart from the computer.

In March the TSA began discussions with manufacturers concerning the development of this type of bag, following which 40 prototypes were submitted for testing.
