Northgate Information Solutions, a supplier of services to the public sector and utilities markets, has signed two contracts worth a total of GBP1.2m.

At Places for People, the company will enable approximately 1,000 housing officers across the country to improve services for residents while out in the field. Maintenance requests can be logged on-the-spot, queries answered, and residents receive help with completing housing application forms or amending payment schedules in their own homes. In addition, staff will benefit through reduced travel and the ability to work from home through removing the need to collect and return case files.

Service Birmingham has reportedly selected Northgate as its preferred supplier for mobile services. It will be used mainly by the housing department to find new ways of delivering services that benefit both employees and citizens, particularly in the most vulnerable communities.

For both organisations, the increased use of mobile services is expected to: speed up the delivery of services for citizens and residents; deliver services more efficiently; support the introduction of flexible working practices such as home-working; reduce their carbon footprint, through minimising return trips to and from the office.
