UK Office of National Statistics reports increase in online Christmas shopping

Telecomworldwire, Jan 21, 2008

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-21 January 2008-UK Office of National Statistics reports increase in online Christmas shopping(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The UK Office of National Statistics reported on Friday (18 January) that while Christmas consumer spending was the lowest it has been in 13 years, UK consumers are increasingly turning to the Internet.

The report shows that 66% of UK consumers shopped online over the Christmas period, and GBP1 in every GBP7 was spent via online channels.

According to independent IT consultancy DMW Group, increased competition means retailers must get to know the threats and the potential opportunities the Internet brings, and traditional retailers need to offer an integrated multi-channel experience.
