Fujitsu and Sun announce new models of Sun SPARC Enterprise servers

Sun Microsystems (Nasdaq: JAVA) and Fujitsu Limited (TSE: 6702) announced on 14 July an extension to the Fujitsu range of Sun SPARC Enterprise servers.

The four new models, M4000, M5000, M8000 and M9000, are based on the quad-core SPARC64 VII processor and the Solaris operating system. The companies claim an 80% better performance on commercial applications, improved performance on HPC workloads and a lower energy demand per core for the new systems.

The SPARC64 VII processor is available as an upgrade option for existing SPARC Enterprise servers.
