TELECOMWORLDWIRE-16 July 2008-Bermuda Telephone Company implements Nortel carrier VoIP technology(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Bermuda Telephone Company Ltd (BTC), a provider of voice and data services, has implemented carrier VoIP technology from communications solutions provider Nortel (NYSE:NT)(TSX:NT).
According to the company, Nortel technology enables BTC subscribers to use their Bermuda number outside the island to stay connected regardless of their location, accessing a suite of advanced IP services like personal call routing and inexpensive long distance calls. In addition, Nortel's Communication Server (CS) 2000, an IP multimedia softswitch, gives BTC subscribers fixed mobile convergence capabilities such as the ability to have calls rerouted from their wireless service to their voicemail or home phone.
Nortel's CS 2000 is expected to enable BTC to meet the demand for immediate client needs, as well as help to pursue and attract future customers by delivering residential and business communications services that vary from traditional voice services to advanced multimedia communications such as video calling, presence and collaboration.
