TELECOMWORLDWIRE-2 July 2008-South Dakota plough operators helped by Intelligent Devices and Nagasaki IPC touch screens(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Over a hundred touch screen equipped Mobile Data Collection (MDC) systems have been supplied by Intelligent Devices to the US State of South Dakota, to be used in a pilot project that will see the systems installed in the cabs of snow ploughs operating on the state's highways.

The units are equipped with touch screens supplied by Nagasaki IPC, a specialist supplier of industrial and commercial grade display technologies. The fanless panel PCs with LED flat screens will provide snow plough drivers with current road condition information and the best salt/sand/chemical mixture given the current road conditions.

The MDC can also transmit road conditions, mixture information, truck location through GPS, lane selection and plough blade positioning information back to the home office.

The pilot system will establish whether it can save money by optimising road treatment mixtures to suit the specific conditions. The specification was for a low powered rugged military grade device and Mark Neill of Intelligent Devices said that Nagasaki had matched all Intelligent Devices' specifications for the MDC controller.
