TELECOMWORLDWIRE-3 July 2008-Freeview re-brands its DTRs to Freeview (C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Over the next few months, Freeview will re-brand its digital TV recorders as Freeview and roll the new name out across retail and packaging.

Freeview enabled equipment offers access to subscription-free digital TV channels and the recorders have features that include series record, one-touch recording and the abilty to pause live TV.

According to Freeview, the DTR market is currently growing at 78 percent year on year while the re-brand is to position Freeview to take advantage of this growth and to drive Freeview's marketing efforts and consumer awareness and sales of its DTR equipment. Further impetus for the growth is expected from the switch from analogue to digital TV broadcasting which will make many video recorders less than fully functional and drive consumers to upgrade.

The Freeview range will include basic boxes, DVD recorders, DVD and VHS combination recorders and TVs with Freeview built in. It will also feature an increased number of products from a range of brands including Humax, Goodmans, LG, Sony and Sharp and Tvonics.

Freeview is owned and marketed by DTV Services Limited - a joint venture between the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, BSkyB and National Grid Wireless.
