O2, a UK mobile operator, and Sierra Wireless (Nasdaq:SWIR) (TSX:SW) announced on 3 July that O2 is to make the Sierra Wireless Compass 885 USB Modem available to O2 network customers in the UK.
Intended for use by the mobile professional, laptop users or the frequent traveller, the small-footprint USB modem is available direct from O2 retail points, its website or through O2's corporate and business sales channels.

The modem can support download speeds of up to 7.2Mb/s and upload speeds of up to 2Mb/s and comes with TRU-install automatic software installation to simplify setup and a microSD memory card slot to expand functionality.
It offers tri-band HSPA/UMTS support and quad-band GSM/EDGE support enabling a traveller to make use of wireless networks in many countries throughout the world. It also has a connector for an external antenna to allow users in low-signal areas to extend and strengthen their connection to the network.
O2 UK is part of Telefnica O2 Europe which owns O2 in the UK, Ireland, Slovakia, Germany and the Czech Republic.
