TELECOMWORLDWIRE-4 July 2008-STMicroelectronics introduces 1MHz two-wire serial EEPROM devices(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a provider of non-volatile memory technology, on Thursday (3 July) introduced the 1MHz two-wire serial EEPROMs in 256-Kbit, 512-Kbit and 1-Mbit densities.

These 1 MHz additions to the company's EEPROM range are compatible with I2C Fast-Mode-Plus, and allow data rates up to 2.5-times faster than the I2C Fast-mode.

Operating at 1MHz, the M24M01-HR is reportedly able to complete a 1-Mbit data transaction in 1 second, while the 256-Kbit M24256-BHR completes the same in a quarter of a second and the 512-Kbit M24512-HR in half a second.

The two-wire serial EEPROM supports multiple access modes, including byte-write mode as well as 64, 128 and 256-byte page-write modes, random and sequential read modes, automatic address incrementing.

In addition, a write-control input is provided, while three chip-enable pins allow up to eight devices on a single bus. All three densities are available in variants operating from 1.8V to 5.5V or 2.5V to 5.5V.

The company said that samples of the 256-Kbit, 512-Kbit and 1-Mbit devices are available in the SO-8 packages. Samples in TSSOP packaging are available in 256-Kbit and 512-Kbit densities. The pricing per unit, in high-volume quantities, is USD1.40 for the 1-Mbit device; USD0.80 for 512 Kbit; and USD0.55 for 256 Kbit.
