TELECOMWORLDWIRE-8 July 2008-QuickLogic adds high-speed UARTs to library of CSSP logic platforms(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The recent addition of high-speed UARTs to the library of functions for low power programmable solutions provider QuickLogic's (NASDAQ: QUIK) Customer Specific Standard Product (CSSP) logic platforms for consumer electronics, is providing a versatile upgrade path for smartphone developers.

According to the company, the new UARTs offer a power-efficient single-chip solution to expand the interfacing capability of a mobile application processor to support high-datarate Bluetooth, as well as the integration of further peripherals such as GPS.

One of QuickLogic's CSSPs, the PolarPro platform, reportedly enables smartphone developers to expand the native host controller resources of the phone's mobile application processor. The device consumes less than 10 microamps in standby mode, comes in TFBGA packages of 5x5 mm and can integrate two high speed UARTs and an additional SDIO port, as well as the processor interface required.

The CSSP approach provides a low power, single-chip solution that contrasts well against alternative implementation strategies, such as migrating to another processor, the company claims.

No financial details were disclosed.
