TELECOMWORLDWIRE-8 July 2008-Comcast to source DTA adapters from Thomson(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Thomson (Euronext:18453) (NYSE:TMS), a video equipment manufacturer, announced on 7 July that it has entered into an agreement with Comcast to supply the US cable and communications provider with digital-to-analogue (DTA) adapters.
A DTA is a device that enables customers to continue using analogue video and TVs equipment with digital signals, a function that will be important for a number of households after the move to all-digital transmission on the 17 February 2009. Cable providers such as Comcast can transition to a fully digital service without having to supply a legacy analogue service while still providing their customers with the ability to view the service on analogue equipment.

Financial details of the agreement were not released, nor did the announcement give any details of the actual equipment models Thomson expect to provide to Comcast.
Frederic Kurkjian of Thomson said that the relationship with Comcast was an entry point into the US cable and video market for Thomson, with the experience gained by Thompson on the project becoming of use to the firm as more regions world wide make the move from analogue to digital transmissions.
