Taking advantage of the increasing number of systems available with multi-core processors, TransMagic Inc, a supplier of data exchange software, announced on 17 June that it has released TransMagic R7 SP2, an updated version of its program which can transfer files between various proprietary formats used by CAD/CAM/CAE software.

Since the translation and conversion of design and engineering data files can be extremely complex and time-consuming, the most significant update to the program is its ability to make use of multi-core processors to simultaneously perform multiple operations, offering what TransMagic says should be significant performance gains for the user.
Many organisations with incompatible CAD/CAM software systems use software such as TransMagic to exchange design and engineering files. TransMagic supports most of the well-known industry-standard CAD/CAM/CAE systems, such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks and ACIS.
Other features added in this update include additional format support, a new JT read/write add-on translator and other useability features.
