TELECOMWORLDWIRE-24 June 2008-Sigma release UWB system-on-chip(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Sigma Designs (NASDAQ:SIGM), a manufacturer of wireless system-on-chip components, announced on 24 June the release of its CoAir chipset.

The CoAir chipset provides an Ultrawideband (UWB) and WiMedia standard-based product with combined wireless, coax and Ethernet capabilities. Capable of delivering multiple independent steams of video and data over all three routes, the chipset is designed for home media systems with a range of up to 330 feet.

The WiMedia standard can deliver data rates of up to 480Mb/s using UWB wireless streaming, with the same data rates possible for same-room UWB-over-coax. The devices are able to deliver content via coax, wireless and ethernet simultaneously. With a significant number of US homes already wired with coax, the chipset is aimed at service providers wishing to reduce installation costs while at the same time providing their customers with whole-home connectivity.
