Software company ILOG (NASDAQ:ILOG) (Euronext:ILO) (ISIN:FR0004042364) announced on 24 June that the company who manage the power supply systems in the Canary Islands, Balearic Islands and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla, Red Electrica de Espana (REE), is using ILOG CPLEX, ILOG Optimization Decision Manager and ILOG OPL Development Studio as part of its power supply system.

It was reported that production costs of the systems were reduced by almost 2% and REE has cut its carbon emissions by 2.5% in its efforts to comply with the measures set out by the Kyoto Protocol.

According to ILOG, its ILOG OPL Development Studio was utilised as to build and maintain the model of REE's unit commitment responsibility, which met with the help of ILOG CPLEX.

ILOG Optimization Decision Manager was added in the second phase of the project, enabling planners to compare different situations, programs and production costs.

Red Electrica has reportedly also been able to incorporate the highest possible wind energy in the system using ILOG technology as well as reducing noise pollution at night by halving the use of loud generators.
