LGS, which was created to service US government contracts, supplied equipment which has already faced technical and interoperability tests carried out under DISA's Tactical Service Providers (TSP) Joint Capabilities Technology Demonstration (JCTD).
For the field tests LGS will supply a WiMAX radio access network, including a base station, access controller and Operation and Maintenance centre.
The network supports the WiMAX 802.16e-2005 (Rev-e) standard. It has beamforming capabilities to increase signal range and penetration and reduce the effects of interference. The system also incorporates multiple in/multiple out (MIMO), an advanced antenna technology that can combined signals reflected off natural and artificial surfaces (such as buildings in an urban environment) to increase the total signal strength.
