TELECOMWORLDWIRE-25 June 2008-Siano launches new CMMB receiver chip(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Siano Mobile Silicon, a manufacturer of integrated circuits for the mobile market, has launched the SMS118X Mobile Digital TV (MDTV) receiver chip.

Launched in time to be ready for the Summer Olympics in Beijing, the chip supports the Chinese MDTV standard CMMB. CMMB (or S-TOMI) is a Chinese-developed technology selected by the Chinese State Administration for Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) as the main platform for delivering domestic MDTV.

The Olympic Games have been chosen for the pilot launch of China's MDTV service, with broadcasts to over 30 Chinese cities over the UHF spectrum band. Full commercial deployment of the system is scheduled for early 2009.

The SMS118X will be available in two flavours when it reaches volume production in August 2008. The SMS1185 can support two UHF and two S-band antennae while the SMS1180 one supports one antennae per band. The chips are designed to support MDTV reception on multiple bands simultaneously.
