SES ASTRA, an SES company (Paris:SESG) (LuxX:SESG) that operates a fleet of 13 satellites, announced on 26 June that they will start carrying the ARTE public channel in High Definition from the 1 July.

The HD programme will be carried by the ASTRA satellite using existing and previously contracted capacity on the satellite, which is positioned 19.2 degrees East. A French language version of ARTE HD is planned for a future date.

Once the channel starts broadcasting, ASTRA will be carrying a total of 35 HD channels.
