TELECOMWORLDWIRE-26 June 2008-CRFS to survey UK spectrum(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Cambridge Radio Frequency Services (CRFS), a developer and manufacturer of spectrum analysis tools, has been chosen by Ofcom, the UK communications regulator, to undertake a detailed spectrum mapping of the UK.

Ofcom intends to use the data collected to contribute to a picture of what is happening across the UK in the key frequency bands between 100Mhz and 5GHz. Around 3% of the UK's GDP comes from radio spectrum useage.

CRFS will use purpose-built RFeye system nodes mounted on a fleet of cars to sample spectrum utilisation. Phase one of the project will be completed by 31 December 2008.

The RFeye spectrum analysis system is a distributed sampling and analysis tool. Each GPS-equipped node has full spectrum analysis capabilities. The combined data can then provide a clear picture of spectrum utilisation.
