Comcast Corporation (Nasdaq: CMCSK) (Nasdaq: CMCSA), a US fixed and mobile operator, announced on 26 June that it has successfully completed a test of a 100GE (GigaByte Ethernet) router interface developed for the Cisco CRS-1 routing system over Comcast's existing backbone between Philadelphia and McLean, VA.

The interface uses Comcast's existing optical infrastructure to enable 100GE transmission over DWDM (Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing) fibre optic networks that were initially deployed to handle 10GE bandwidths.

The implementation as tested is consistent with the IEEE 802.3ba 100GE standard and proves the potential for using IPoDWDM technologies in ComCast's networks.
