Telecomworldwire,  June 30, 2008

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-30 June 2008-Healthcare trust opts for Hitachi Data Systems disaster recovery solution(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Hitachi Data Systems, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hitachi Ltd (NYSE:HIT) and a provider of services oriented storage solutions, announced on 30 June that Bradford and Airedale Teaching Primary Care Trust (tPCT) has ensured the safe storage of its patients electronic data records by using Hitachi technology.

Bradford and Airedale tPCT said it required a reliable disaster recovery solution, including the need to securely store critical data and hosting of the its intranet sites, essential for peripatetic nurses and GPs.

The tPCT, with IT services partner Viglen, decided on a Hitachi storage and replication solution and were able to reduce storage from 55 down to 4 servers, thereby saving on data centre space and administrative costs. Savings were also made by transferring the data electronically.

According to Hitachi, its Adaptable Modular Storage 500 (AMS 500) system with 12 terabytes of usable data and Hitachi TrueCopy Extended Distance Software is in place at the tPCT's new headquarters and a second identical system, powered by its own generator, provides backup from a community hospital. High-performance asynchronous replication between the two sites is made possible through the Hitachi TrueCopy Extended Distance Software and Hitachi Data Systems's Hi-Track Monitor tool provides remote monitoring and maintenance.
