Telecomms company Global Crossing (NASDAQ:GLBC) announced on 30 June that it is providing Natural England, a conservation organisation, with telephony services.

Natural England reportedly has 44 sites and 2,500 users in the UK which needed to be consolidated in its efforts to meet its carbon footprint targets. Three telephony estates will be merged by Global Crossing and its services will include, with associated equipment, installation of an IP VPN, Hosted IP Telephony and managed video conferencing. Natural England's existing equipment will be integrated onto a single platform.

The organisation estimates that the cost the operation will be around GBP1m with a possible return of GBP3.2m over the next five years. It anticipates that video conferencing will save 20,000 man-days and two million miles of car journeys thereby cutting travel expenditure and reducing its carbon footprint.
