US communication holding company AT&T (NYSE:T) announced on Tuesday (18 March) that AT&T Government Solutions, a business unit of the company, has been awarded a contract by the Air Force Services Agency (AFSVA) worth up to USD16.5m.

Under the terms of the contract, which is for four years with six one-year options, AT&T will build and transition the agency to a single cohesive network for all AFSVA locations worldwide.

AT&T will harness its Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS)-enabled network that deploys an Internet Protocol (IP) Virtual Private Network (VPN) solution. This IP VPN solution will reportedly enable AFSVA to integrate all 107 locations, including 22 that are outside the US, into a single streamlined IP communications platform with consistent standards and capabilities.

AT&T's MPLS network-based security is also expected to help AFSVA securely process millions of non-appropriated funds that are moved through the AFSVA banking system daily.
