TELECOMWORLDWIRE-25 March 2008-Meru upgrades Wayne State University to 802.11n Wi-Fi technology(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com
Meru Networks Inc (Meru), a US provider of wireless infrastructure solutions, has announced that Wayne State University has selected new 802.11n high-performance Wi-Fi technology, through the launch of a USD1.3m technology initiative.
Meru said the project more than doubles the university's existing wireless network, wireless@wayne, within its campus in Midtown Detroit, and upgrades the technology to Meru's 802.11n products provided.

According to Meru, the new 802.11n standard for wireless networks offers faster data transfer rates of around 250Mb/s compared to 54Mb/s for the current 802.11g standard, and travels twice as quickly as current standards (about 230 feet, reportedly over twice that of 802.11g) and is more reliable. Meru said its Air Traffic Control technology will allow university students, faculty and staff to benefit from improved online performance with their wireless laptops.
Wayne State University started its wireless upgrade and expansion project on 10 March, with Meru's 802.11n products to replace existing 802.11b/g wireless access points (APs) in 28 university buildings and deployed in 22 further buildings. The university's total number of wireless APs is expected to increase from 453 to 1,000, introducing high-performance wireless coverage to all classrooms, research buildings and libraries on the main campus.
