Computer company IBM (NYSE:IBM) and telecomms provider Telecom Egypt have confirmed the completion of a new data centre for Telecom Egypt, which will incorporate energy-efficient green technologies.

Telecom Egypt, which provides fixed-line services in the Middle East and has 10.4m customers, selected IBM to design and build the energy-efficient data centre in Egypt.

IBM said the highly resilient data centre environment was designed by its Global Technology Services (GTS) site and facilities division and will be fully equipped to protect Telecom Egypt's IT investments. The company will support Telecom Egypt in managing the operation of the data centre, which runs business and operational support systems, along with maintaining a range of telecomms equipment.

Telecom Egypt required the new data centre to house its existing IT solutions, support future growth and enable it to manage growing demand on its telecomms network and other operations.

According to IBM, it created a solution which is part of its Project Big Green, provides an efficient, reliable and secure data centre which helps save energy and ensures efficient server performance for Telecom Egypt.
