TELECOMWORLDWIRE-4 March 2008-SecurEnvoy awarded contract by John Lewis Partnership(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The John Lewis Partnership, a retail company, has signed a deal with security technology company SecurEnvoy to enable its workforce to use their mobile phones to gain secure access to corporate systems.

15,000 UK employees are currently using SecurAccess, SecurEnvoy's two-factor authentication solution that transforms mobile phones into virtual tokens.

According to the company, instead of tokens or smart-cards, SecurAccess sends a passcode to the users' mobile phones, which they use in conjunction with their Microsoft User ID and password to log on to the network. Once a passcode has been used, it is superseded with a new one sent to the phone.

John Lewis expects to make savings by swapping from token-based two-factor authentication to SecurAccess, as the user license is cheaper than purchasing, replacing and distributing tokens, and deployment costs are lower.

No other financial details were disclosed.
