Huawei Technologies Co Ltd (Huawei), a provider of next-generation telecomms networks, has revealed it is working with Optus, a telecomms company in Australia, to develop a Mobile Innovation Centre in Sydney, Australia, to accelerate the adoption of high speed mobile and wireless broadband.

Huawei said the centre will feature up to date Huawei next generation mobile and wireless broadband equipment and technologies and will use its global position in mobile research and development. It confirmed the centre will deliver new technologies and products to Optus and improve its future mobile network quality and performance, with the two companies starting to work on various projects which will benefit from the new facility.
According to Huawei, the centre will feature extensive test laboratory facilities and will accommodate workshop and training areas, with engineers taking products from the technical concept stage through testing and development to the delivery of a commercial product to be introduced to market.
Optus claimed the centre will enable it to deliver a broad range of benefits to Australian businesses and consumers and help in the continued development and training of its research and development teams.
The new centre represents a multi-million investment into the Australian telecomms industry and is expected to be fully operational by August 2008.
