A new fulfilment centre is to be opened in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, USA, by Amazon.com Inc (Nasdaq:AMZN), a global, online retailer, creating over 1,100 jobs over the next three years.

Amazon said it will locate the new centre, which will be operated by Amazon.com DEDC LLC, in Hazleton, some 30 miles southwest of Wilkes-Barre, covering over 600,000 square feet and enabling the company to serve customers in the northeast more efficiently. It plans to employ up to 800 temporary associates to meet demand for its products during peak periods.

According to Amazon, the Hazleton facility, which will represent its fifth in Pennsylvania, will play an important role in enabling the company to serve customers in the northeast more quickly and efficiently. The centre is due to open in July 2008.
