Northwest Airlines (NYSE: NWA) is introducing a new paperless boarding pass which will allow passengers to use a mobile phone or other handheld device to clear security and board their flight.
The E-Boarding Pass can be used from 28 May 2008 by customers travelling on nonstop flights from Indianapolis, Ind. to cities within the United States, when checking in at nwa.com.

The technology records passenger travel details on an industry-standard mobile barcode that is sent to mobile phones and handheld devices in the form of an e-mail, WAP push/link or MMS message.
No printer or kiosk is required to print out a boarding pass.
Northwest said that it plans to expand the E-Boarding Pass option to additional cities in the near future, in cooperation with the US Transportation Security Administration.
