Telecomworldwire,  May 27, 2008

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-27 May 2008-Huawei opens GTAC in Malaga, Spain(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

The Global Technical Assistance Centre (GTAC) has been opened in the Malaga Technology Park, Spain, by Huawei Technologies Co Ltd (Huawei), a provider of next generation telecomms networks, to provide technical support services to operators in all Spanish speaking countries.

Huawei said the centre will employ up to 50 professionals, mostly engineers working in areas such as wireless, broadband, data and core network technologies.

According to Huawei, it has significant growth prospects in the Spanish and Latin American markets and the GTAC site will provide a base for offering high level services for Telefonica and Spanish speaking operators. It claimed the centre will also help draw qualified professionals to the organisation, helping to establish a base for future growth and providing training programmes.

In addition, Huawei and Telefonica have signed a cooperation agreement with the intention of establishing an Innovation Centre, which will focus on fixed and mobile broadband technologies, services, applications and software and core network solutions.

Telefonica, a telecomms company, said the centre will provide specialised technical assistance to its operations in Spain and Latin America and represents an important milestone in the cooperation between the two companies.
