TELECOMWORLDWIRE-6 May 2008-Nortel Government Solution unveils unified communications platform for US government(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Nortel Government Solutions, a network-centric integrator owned by Nortel (NYSE:NT) (TSX:NT), has unveiled a new unified communications platform designed to meet the security and service assurance requirements of the US Department of Defense (DoD) and other agencies of the US Federal Government.

The unified communications solution based on Nortel's new Application Server 5300 is expected to enable defense and civilian government agencies to enhance productivity and speed decision-making by integrating voice, instant messaging, multimedia conferencing and presence services to reduce delays in connecting people and information. In addition, the solution supports mobility, allowing remote and field personnel to utilize the same services.

According to the company, the solution is an open, SIP-based software product, which will comply with federal IPv6 and DoD assured services requirements to enable secure, resilient VoIP and unified communications using commercial, off-the-shelf computing hardware. In addition, it will support multi-level precedence and pre-emption, a DoD-compliant command and control mechanism that enables the most critical communications priority over existing calls.

Initial availability with JITC (Joint Interoperability Test Command) certification is planned for September 2008. No financial details were disclosed.
