An expanded line of tools has been announced for the MOTODEV Studio development platform by Motorola Inc (NYSE:MOT), a communications solutions provider, intended to help developers innovate across the company's mobile device portfolio.

Motorola said it is offering an updated toolset for coding Java ME applications and unveiling plans for tools that support application development on Symbian/UIQ, WebUI and mobile Linux platforms.

MOTODEV Studio is based on an open framework enabled by Eclipse and provides an integrated development environment with the tools needed for the application development life cycle, from requirements definition to testing and deployment, across all Motorola platforms.

According to Motorola, the development environments to be added to MOTODEV Studio include: MOTODEV Studio for Java ME: an updated version, now available for download, which adds support for Motorola's Symbian/UIQ-based handsets MOTO Z8 and MOTO Z10, along with the MOTO Z6w, and adds support for the JSR248 mobile service architecture subset.

MOTODEV Studio for UIQ, which is due be available in beta release later this quarter, enables the creation of native C/C applications for Symbian/UIQ-based Motorola products, including current handsets such as the MOTO Z8 and MOTO Z10.

MOTODEV Studio for WebUI, likely to be available as a technology preview later this quarter, is designed to support the creation and testing of lightweight WebUI widgets and full-featured, context-aware WebUI applications that can access local device services and support future versions of Motorola's MOTOMAGX mobile Linux platform.

MOTODEV Studio for Linux, demonstrated as a technology preview to be available later this quarter, will support native C/C application development on future versions of Motorola's MOTOMAGX mobile Linux platform.
