Verizon and HTC announce availability of the HTC Touch Pro phone

Verizon Wireless, a provider of wireless voice and data network, in a joint venture of Verizon Communications (NYSE: VZ), Vodafone (NYSE:VOD)(LSE: VOD) and HTC Corporation, a mobile phone designer, announced on Thursday (24 November) that the HTC Touch Pro phone will be available on Verizon's network.

Customers can immediately purchase the HTC Touch Pro through Verizon's business sales channels and online at http://www.verizonwireless.com. The phone will be available for order in Verizon Wireless Communications Stores from 1 December 2008.

The companies said that the HTC Touch Pro is a compact and stylish phone with an intuitive touch screen and slide-out QWERTY keyboard.

The phone features Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional for an easy to use interface. For maximum flexibility, customers can choose to use either the Windows Mobile interface or HTC's TouchFLO 3D graphical interface.

The phone is powered by Verizon Wireless' network. It also has the ability to open and edit Microsoft Word and Excel documents and share Microsoft PowerPoint files with large groups, using a separately sold video-out cable connected to a television or projector.

The HTC Touch Pro includes a 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash and the camera doubles as a scanner. The phone features Verizon Wireless' VZ Navigator service, the Opera Web browser and a microSD memory card slot with storage of up to 16 GB.

The HTC Touch Pro is priced at USD349.99 after a USD70 mail-in rebate and a new two-year customer agreement.

The companies said that the customers will receive the rebate in the form of a debit card; upon receipt, customers may use the card as cash wherever debit cards are accepted.
