New Gigabit WebSmart switch introduced by Allied Telsis

Telecomworldwire, Nov 5, 2008

TELECOMWORLDWIRE-5 November 2008-New Gigabit WebSmart switch introduced by Allied Telsis(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Allied Telesis, a provider of secure IP/Ethernet solutions, has launched the AT-GS950/8POE, an 8 port managed Gigabit WebSmart switch, with Power over Ethernet and silent operation.

The new product has been developed as a replacement of the AT-GS900/8POE to address the demand for higher data transfer rates over long distances.

According to the company, the AT-GS950/8POE is capable of supporting 100Mb/s Small Form-factor Pluggable (SFP) modules over a large distance. It features silent operation, which makes it suitable for use in an office, retail or a classroom environment.

In addition, the switch contains two SFP uplinks, enabling it to be deployed in a ring topology with fibre connecting the switches. This allows a number of switches to be deployed over distances of up to 2km, using a multi-mode fibre or further using single-mode, which is particularly useful on large campuses, within the military or for high-availability applications, the company said.

Using a fibre infrastructure, the new switch can be used to power VoIP phones and cameras, a requirement from within the military, and its WebSmart switch functionality can secure VLANs and provide the Quality of Service needed to prioritise mission-critical traffic.

The product is available from November 2008. No pricing details were disclosed.
