Orange Business, a unit of the key Orange brand from France Telecom, a telecomms operator, announced on 20 October the signing of an agreement with the United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) for a Wide Area Network which will link UASC's 28 sites in North America, Europe and the Middle East.

These sites can now all talk with the new UASC data centre in Singapore, from where they can access critical business applications.

Orange said that the WAN will allow UASC employees to access the Internet without compromising the corporate net, cut costs and offer flexible features not found on traditional PBX systems.

The contract is said to be worth 'several million US dollars' over three years.
