TELECOMWORLDWIRE-1 September 2008-OnStar opens service to subscribers affected by storm(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

OnStar, a subsidiary of General Motors and a provider of in-car communications systems in many late-model GM vehicles, announced on 1 September that all its services would be available to all subscribers in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, regardless of which plan they subscribe to, if they have been affected by Hurricane Gustav.

A push of the OnStar button in GM vehicles will put users in contact with specially-trained Crisis Advisors.

OnStar's Crisis Assist services can locate the subscriber using inbuilt GPS and direct emergency services to that location, or alternatively provide directions to the subscriber to help them find food, water, emergency shelters or hotel accommodation.

The system can also put subscribers in touch with family and friends.
