TELECOMWORLDWIRE-24 September 2008-Highwinds partners with Octoshape to create Hybrid P2P CDN solution(C)1994-2008 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD http://www.m2.com

Highwinds Network Group, Inc, a multi-platform IP services and content distribution provider, announced on Tuesday (23 September) it has partnered with Octoshape, a provider of high-quality peer-assisted streaming solutions, to create a Hybrid Peer-to-Peer Content Delivery Network (Hybrid P2P CDN) solution for streaming live events to millions of concurrent worldwide viewers.

According to the company, the Hybrid P2P CDN enables content providers to quickly and affordably deliver television and radio broadcasts, sporting events, webinars and conferences, concerts and other forms of live streaming to global audiences. The joint solution combines the reach, reliability and scalability of the Highwinds' CDN with Octoshape's flexible peer-to-peer technology, which scales to accommodate content demand, regardless of audience size or geographic location.

Through its peer-assisted gridcasting technology, Octoshape reportedly helps broadcasters stream more efficiently to a greater number of users without compromising the quality of the broadcast. The company's streaming solution secures optimal data transmission routes using a unique communication protocol, ensuring smooth transmission in diverse user network environments. In the joint solution, Octoshape's technology is backed by the resources of the Highwinds CDN. It uses Highwinds' high-performance RollingThunder network for global delivery. The network consists of 23 data centres with multiple 10Gb/s connections, over 700 peering partners, with bandwidth capacity of nearly 1Tb/s.

The solution has been designed to stream live events in any format and provide for the best user experience through near-instant streaming without buffering delays or audience size limitations, the company said.

In addition, the companies are joining forces to deliver a set of analytical tools, with Octoshape's reporting capabilities integrated into Highwinds' StrikeTracker media manager and reporting dashboard.

No financial details were disclosed.
