Attachmate Introduces LINK! NFS for TCP/IP — Robust Network File System Functionality
Business Wire, Dec 12, 1994
BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 12, 1994--Attachmate Corporation today announced the shipment of LINK! NFS, Attachmate's high-speed and high-performance solution to provide transparent remote access to shared files and resources across TCP/IP networks. Together with LINK! TCP and Attachmate flagship Windows software products, KEA! for VAX and UNIX hosts, RALLY! for AS/400 systems, EXTRA! for Windows and NetWare LAN Professional for mainframe systems, the LINK! product line provides superior multi-host connectivity through an award winning interface for organizations with a TCP/IP environment.
"We are seeing tremendous demand in the TCP/IP market for high-quality, high-performance networking solutions for the Microsoft Windows environment. The LINK! family now provides transparent file sharing services that become as simple as 'point and click'," said Joyce Jones, Executive Vice President of Worldwide Products for Attachmate. "It's very easy to install, uses one of the least amounts of memory on the market, and is built with the same heritage as the rest of our products."
LINK! NFS
---------
Engineered for Microsoft Windows, LINK! NFS allows users to mount remote NFS file systems from within the Windows File Manager. Remote NFS file systems appear as disk drives to Windows applications, enabling the user easy access to data on these systems. Further, the LINK! NFS Server facilitates convenient file sharing between PC's and other NFS nodes on the network with its NFS Server application. The NFS Server allows a LINK! NFS-installed PC to act as a server making file sharing possible between PCs and other NFS nodes on the network.
LINK! NFS is fully compliant with Windows Sockets API v1.1 and provides seamless access to NFS servers, while consuming less memory than many competing Dynamic Link Library based product or TSR implementations. LINK! NFS can co-exist with LINK! TCP, Novell's LAN Workplace for DOS, and Microsoft's 32-bit VxD stack and maintain its superior speed and performance.
The LINK! NFS installation program guides users through configuration with a 'point and click' interface. This Control Panel applet makes configuration and follow-up network administration very easy as well as reduces management and support costs. Users will immediately notice how easy it is to set-up and begin using instantly.
LINK! TCP for Windows
---------------------
LINK! TCP consists of a high performance, Windows based TCP/IP network protocol stack and a suite of Windows applications. As a Dynamic Link Library implementation engineered specifically for Windows, LINK! TCP consumes less DOS memory than TSR stacks as well as many competing DLL based products, while providing superior high performance and speed. LINK! TCP works with other network products that comply with the NDIS (NetWare Directory Services) and ODI (Open Datalink Interface) specifications, allowing users to load TCP/IP, LAT and IPX network protocols all on the same machine to access their UNIX host, VAX and NetWare file server at the same time. This also eliminates the need for users to reboot and reload a new network stack each time access is needed.
