Bell Atlantic and Multimedia Systems Corp. announce technology license agreement for hotel marketplace

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 20, 1994--Bell Atlantic Network Services and Multimedia Systems Corp. (MSC) Tuesday announced they have reached a non-exclusive license agreement providing Bell Atlantic access to MSC technology for use in Bell Atlantic's InfoTravel pilots announced on Aug. 3.

The agreement also provides for future deployments in select hotels nationwide. The terms of the agreements were not announced.

In commenting on the agreement, Dr. Scott Lewis, MSC's chairman, stated, "Our license to Bell Atlantic quantifies the value of our interactive technology and opens the door to a host of other telco and cable licensees both in the United States and internationally."

Both parties expressed their satisfaction in the success of the Santa Clara pilot and in the opportunity to move forward from this successful starting point into nationwide deployments.

"This positions Bell Atlantic to proceed with maximum flexibility in its development of the InfoTravel product," said Pat Cantwell, vice president of marketing and strategic planning for Bell Atlantic Directory Services.

Multimedia Systems Corp. (MSC) is a privately funded Silicon Valley, Calif., firm which has developed a series of advanced interactive technologies resulting in a family of systems and devices designed to transform interactive communications and media using existing telephone, cable and satellite networks.

These technologies, devices and systems are part of an ongoing international license program for use in developing and deploying revolutionary interactive services for customers throughout the world.

InfoTravel will be offered by Bell Atlantic Publishing Inc., part of the directory services group of the Bell Atlantic Corp. Bell Atlantic Corp. publishes more than 240 telephone directories in the mid-Atlantic region.
