Softool Corp. to participate in Oracle CDE2 Open Initiative; Softool to integrate its configuration management products with Oracle CDE2

Business Wire, Nov 1, 1994

GOLETA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1994--Softool Corp., the leader in change and configuration management (CM) software, Tuesday announced its participation in the Oracle Cooperative Development Environment CDE2 Open Initiative.

As a selected partner in the program, Softool will integrate its software change and configuration management (CM) products with the other complementary components of Oracle CDE2, thus enabling software developers to automate the process of managing changes to their applications as they progress through the software life cycle.

With Softool's CCC/Harvest, IS professionals can easily coordinate the development activities of numerous programmers working on distributed, heterogeneous platforms. CCC/Harvest allows developers to check out application components to other development tools in the CDE2 suite, make changes, then check the components back in to a managed library.

This system makes management, control and auditing of changes very clear.

"System developers, programmers and end users need a complete set of integrated application development tools for building mission-critical information systems," said Dr. Leon Presser, president and founder of Softool. "We are pleased to integrate our leading-edge CM products and services into Oracle CDE2, bringing the control and power of CM to an even broader base of users."

"CDE2 delivers the industry's most comprehensive tools set to customers developing applications that scale throughout the enterprise," said Dennis Moore, senior director of Worldwide CDE Product Marketing. "With the addition of Softool to the programs, CDE2 Open continues to expand and encompass specialized technology that meets the needs of developers in any industry."

Oracle CDE2 Open

Oracle's CDE2 Open initiative brings Oracle and other industry leaders together to integrate leading application development technology and provide developers with the industry's most open and comprehensive development environment.

CDE2 Open members fall into one of several categories including testing tools, transaction processing (TP) monitors, workflow automation, version control and configuration management, project management tools, messaging, open database connectivity (ODBC) drivers and geographic information systems.

CM enables an organization to automate the process of identifying strategic software assets and their interrelationships, as well as managing and controlling any changes to those assets. Functional areas include change management, component management, application management, dependency management and process management.

Implementation of an effective CM solution helps developers to create and maintain higher-quality software releases with considerably shorter development cycles.
