Unisys announces complete family of high-performance servers; Pentium based family ranges from single-processor to scalable symmetric multiprocessor servers qualified for multiple PC LAN environments
Business Wire, Nov 14, 1994
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1994--Unisys Corp. Monday announced a complete line of high-performance servers based on the latest Intel Pentium Processor technology.
One of the industry's most comprehensive server families, the Unisys PW2 Advantage Series spans a range from single 66 MHz Pentium Processor or dual 90 MHz Pentium Processor models, to high-capacity, high-performance scalable, symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) servers supporting up to four 90 MHz or 100 MHz Intel Pentium Processors.
At the top end of the family, Unisys adds to its four-processor SMP server a fault-resilient storage subsystem supporting RAID levels 0, 1 and 5 with hot-swap and hot-spare capabilities, ensuring the high availability and data integrity demanded of mission critical client/server applications in a PC LAN environment.
All Unisys PW2 Advantage servers are qualified for a range of PC LAN operating environments, including single processor and multiprocessor versions of Microsoft Windows NT Server, SCO, Novell NetWare and IBM OS/2.
Unisys SMP servers also provide the added advantage of flexibility unmatched by competitive products. Both four-processor SMP servers offer a choice of 90 MHz or 100 MHz Pentium Processors, and are engineered to support future 120 MHz Pentium and Intel P6 Processor technology when it is available.
To further match the flexibility of these servers, Unisys offers scalable mass storage subsystems and memory configurations of up to 1 GB of total system memory to ensure full support for high-volume database and distributed client/server applications.
"No other vendor can claim the same price and performance range which Unisys offers in high-performance PC and LAN servers," said Vaughn G. Hysinger, vice president of marketing operations, Unisys Personal Computer Division.
"The choice of processors, configuration options, support for the most popular PC LAN environments, and flexible storage, memory and processor expansion options combine to deliver a range of entry points and a long-range growth path unparalleled in the industry. Backed by Unisys worldwide service and support organization, large commercial customers have the most complete solution offered in the PC market today."
The following four PW2 Advantage Series servers join the current 90 MHz Intel Pentium Processor based Model SVI 59071 PCI architecture server to provide a complete range of performance, functionality and options for any PC LAN or super server application.
The Unisys PW2 Advantage Series Model SFE 59010 Four-processor Super Server Scalability, Fault-Resilient RAID for Missions Critical Applications
This PW2 Advantage Model SFE 59010 supports up to four 90 MHz or 100 MHz Intel Pentium Processors with up to 1 GB of system memory and up to 20 GB of on-line storage capacity, configured using high-performance 2 GB hot disk modules. Designed for applications demanding high-availability and fault resiliency, the Model SFE 59010 offers a full-featured RAID controller, supporting RAID levels 0, 1 and 5.
In addition, the fault-resilient storage subsystem provides "hot swap" disk modules, enabling continuous operations while replacing or adding storage modules and one global "hot-spare" usable by any hot plug module in the system, further ensuring system availability and data integrity. The system also supports 10 EISA-bus slots, three of which support the VESA VL extensions.
The Unisys PW2 Advantage Series Model SME 59010 Four-processor Super Server Scalability for Distributed Databases and Client/Server Applications
Designed for high-volume applications demanding multiprocessor scalability and performance, the PW2 Advantage Model SME 59010 supports from one to four 90 MHz or 100 MHz Intel Pentium Processors and up to 1 GB of system memory and up to 40 GB or on-line storage configured using 4 GB storage modules.
This provides customers with the flexibility to add power and capacity as client/server applications requirements expand. The system also supports 10 EISA-bus slots, three of which support the VESA VL extensions.
The Unisys PW2 Advantage Series Model SSE 59010 Dual-processor Power for Growing LAN Applications
The PW2 Advantage Model SSE 59010 is designed to provide superior price/performance for growing PC LAN applications. The Model SSE 59010 provides the ability to add a second 90 MHz Pentium Processor, up to 512 MB of RAM and 20 GB of on-line disk storage.
In addition to seven EISA-bus expansion slots, the Model SSE 59010 also provides three PCI-bus slots and one shared EISA/PCI slot, providing customers with access to a broad range of high-performance peripherals for both the industry-standard EISA and emerging PCI bus architecture.
The Unisys PW2 Advantage Series Model SVE 5669 High-performance PC Server
To improve the performance and scalability of existing PC networks, the PW2 Advantage Model SVE 5669 provides a high-performance 128-bit memory bus, a generous 512K of cache memory, up to 1 GB of RAM and up to 20 GB of on-line storage to maximize the performance of this single 66 MHz Intel Pentium processor-based system.
